What’s Happening in Hillsboro – July 3 to 9 Edition
Happy Forth of July week! There’s something going on pretty much every night this week, including (of course) fireworks! Here’s what we think you should check out in Hillsboro this week.
Tonight the Hillsboro Hops play the Aquasox right here in town tonight, and the game will be followed by the third largest fireworks display in the city this year. It’s a great excuse to watch a ball game, and watching a ball game is a great excuse to drink beer, so we think you should excuse yourself. And if you can’t make the game, you could camp out in a parking lot nearby to watch the fireworks after.
If you’re attending a few BBQs on the Forth, might we suggest some exercise? The CAT Walk and Fun Run is raising money for Tuality Healthcare’s local cancer awareness and treatment program with a 5K walk and/or run on Tuesday morning. And right after that there’s the annual Forth of July parade in Downtown Hillsboro.
Even better: the parade this year is on a Tuesday, meaning the Tuesday Market takes place in the same spot that evening. It’s probably the busiest day of the year in Downtown Hillsboro.
While you’re being all civic, you might as well stop by for the City Council meeting on Wednesday. These meetings typically happen on Tuesday, but were bumped for the Forth of July. The schedule means a change of venue: City Council is meeting in the Brookwood Library this week. I’ll be the guy sitting toward the front with a laptop, live tweeting from the Hillsboro Signal account—feel free to say hi.
On Thursday Night Pepe & The Bottle Blonds are the Showtime at Shute performers. Stop by for Copacabana-style Latin pop, along with a “stimulating visual stage performance not to be missed.” Free concerts are good, right? If movies are more your thing, watch Sing on the Civic Center Plaza Friday night at 7PM.
Finally, on Sunday, there’s Second Sunday at Orenco Station. There’s only two left this year, so don’t miss it! All told, this is a busy week, so get out there and enjoy it!
